Woodlawn Elementary School is a 69,000 sq. ft. elementary school that houses 660 students grades pre-k thru fifth. The facility includes Core Academic areas, Special Education, Media Center, Physical Education, Technology Education, Music, Art, Administration, Student Services, Student Dining, Food Service, and Custodial and Maintenance areas.
During construction Baton Rouge was affected by a major hurricane, Gustav. Supplies all along the Gulf Coast became scarce, loss of power for works to much of the city, over 10,000 CMU blocks, including several walls work damaged and had to be replaced, loss of workers to FEMA and yet the school opened on time, and at budget.
