This facility is a dedicated visual performing arts academic magnet school that serves approximately 700 - 750 students in grades six through eight. The new facility of approximately 115,000 gross sq. ft. includes Core Academic, Media Center, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Physical Education, Career & Technology Education, Administration, Student Services, Student Dining, Food Service, and Custodial and Maintenance areas.

During construction Baton Rouge was affected by two major hurricanes, Katrina and Rita. Supplies all along the Gulf Coast became scarce, extended loss of power, loss of workers to FEMA and yet the school opened on time, and at budget.
